How can we help?
Set up your shelf, find a file, or get in touch.
Before you download.
A few things to know.
Will it work on my Mac?
Yes, with macOS 26 or later, on Apple silicon or Intel. Download the app, open it, and follow the short guide to connect your screenshot folder. Downloads and Apple Photos are optional. Get setup help.
Is it free?
The direct-download beta is free for now. It won’t stay free indefinitely. The Mac App Store release is coming soon; pricing and timing have not been announced here. See current pricing details.
Do my images stay private?
Yes. Search and organization happen on your Mac. Your images are not uploaded to Lumany. Read our privacy policy.
Why do you ask for my email?
We save your email when you get the download link. You can also opt in to Corbel updates and occasional feedback requests from Lumany. That choice is optional and never changes access to the download. To stop those emails or delete your signup, email hello@lumany.co.
Getting started
A short setup using your own screenshot. Requires macOS 26 or later.
- Open Corbel
Click Continue on the welcome screen.
- Create or choose your Screenshots folder
Choose an existing folder, or create a dedicated home for new Mac captures.
- Connect and verify one screenshot
Click Open Screenshot Save Options. Under Options > Save to > Other Location, select the same folder. Take a new screenshot, wait for New screenshot detected, then continue. Shortcut help is available under Don't know how to take screenshots?
- Try your own image
Choose Try Your Screenshot and drag your new capture into another app, or open the side shelf to try it there. Click Start Using Shelf when you are ready. The practice actions are optional.
Want more on your shelf? Choose Add Downloads or Photos after the lesson, or connect those sources later in Settings. Both are optional.
To repeat setup, open Settings > General > Help & Privacy > Run Setup Guide Again.
Common questions
Clear answers to the first things macOS may ask.
Setup & access
How do I browse older screenshots and downloads?
Keep scrolling. The shelf starts with recent items and adds older weeks before you reach the end, skipping empty weeks. There is no date-range switch. Search, Pinned, and Review still cover all indexed dates.
Which Macs are supported?
Corbel requires macOS 26 or later on an Apple silicon or Intel Mac.
Are my images uploaded?
Your files are not uploaded to Lumany. Search, thumbnails, notes, and organization run on your Mac. Sharing uses the destination you choose, and Apple handles any iCloud Photos downloads.
Can I change the shelf's color and transparency?
Open Settings > Appearance. Choose a ready-made look or a custom color, then adjust shelf size and appearance strength. The expanded library matches the shelf by default.
How do I add a note?
Right-click an image and choose Add Note. Notes stay private on your Mac and are included when you search.
How do I make screenshots arrive immediately?
Press Command-Shift-5, open Options, and turn off Show Floating Thumbnail. New captures can then appear in the shelf without waiting for the system thumbnail.
Finding & using files
How do updates work?
Direct-download copies from version 1.0.60 check for signed updates automatically. Use Corbel > Check for Updates, or Settings > General > Updates, to check manually or allow automatic installation. Earlier copies need one final download to add the updater. Mac App Store copies update through Apple; enable automatic updates in the App Store’s settings.
Why is a new screenshot not appearing?
Confirm that macOS is saving screenshots to the same folder shown under Settings > Library. If the path changed or access was revoked, choose that folder again. Other folder changes are detected automatically.
How do I switch between Screenshots, Downloads, and Photos?
Single-click either neighboring icon in the three-icon switcher on the shelf or full library. The selected view moves to the center. Shift-Command-D also cycles views.
What is the quickest way to open the shelf?
Press Option-Shift-Space from any app, or click the Corbel menu-bar icon. Settings > Shelf > Open your shelf offers alternative keyboard shortcuts. The Advanced section contains click-to-open or hover-to-open at the screen edge. Option-click the menu-bar icon for Quick Stack; right-click for app controls.
Can new screenshots go straight into a project folder?
Yes. In Screenshots or Downloads, click the sorting folder button beside Pin. Choose a recent folder or create and name one inside the shelf. The green button and pill light show when new files in that category are being saved there. Click the button again to stop. Sorting stops automatically after 10 minutes without new files or filing activity. Choose 5 minutes or Never under Stop when idle. Expand the folder to browse its contents alongside your other files.
Can I organize files I already have?
Select files with Command-click, Shift-click, or by dragging a selection box from an empty margin. Drag the selection onto a folder in the shelf, or right-click to create a folder with the selected items. Screenshots and Downloads stay in their connected locations unless you organize them.
How do I review without desktop distractions?
Open the full library, choose Review, then click Focus at the bottom. A full-screen glass backdrop presents one item at a time. Press Left Arrow to mark for discard, Right Arrow to keep, or Up/Down to browse without deciding. The timeline on the right lets you skim your review queue. Command-Z undoes a decision, Space plays or pauses a video, and Escape returns to Review at your place. Review Discarded returns to the discard pile; files are only deleted after the existing final confirmation.
Can I share HEIC pictures with other apps?
Yes. When you copy, drag, or share a HEIC or HEIF image from Shelf, it prepares a full-resolution JPEG or PNG that other apps can use. Originals remain unchanged. A Photos original stored in iCloud may need to download first. Files shared directly from Finder or another app keep their original format.
How do I recover a deleted image?
Folder-based files go to macOS Trash; Command-Z can undo a Shelf trash action during the same session. Photos deletions use Apple Photos after confirmation and can be recovered in Photos → Recently Deleted. Removing an item from the shelf does not delete its original.
Photos & file formats
How do I connect Apple Photos?
After trying your first screenshot, choose Add Downloads or Photos to connect extra sources. Click Connect Photos and grant access when macOS asks, then choose Start Using Shelf. Both extra sources are optional. You can also connect later from the Photos view. If access was previously denied, Connect Photos opens the Photos privacy controls in System Settings. Photos shows photos and videos, including Live Photo stills; album editing is not included.
Why has a photo from my iPhone not appeared yet?
In Photos, click the refresh icon beside Share in the side shelf or in the full library. The icon animates while Shelf checks the Photos library on this Mac. Apple controls iCloud syncing, so refresh cannot force a photo from your iPhone to reach the Mac. If it is also missing in Apple Photos, check that app's library sync status first.
Can I use videos in Corbel?
Yes. Photos, Downloads, and the Screenshots folder include videos. Select a video and press Space to play it; copy, drag, or share it as a video file. Recent Photos previews prepare in the background after launch. Opening or sharing a video stored only in iCloud may need a download first. Playback depends on the formats supported by macOS.
Does Downloads include PDFs and ZIP files?
Yes. Downloads includes completed downloads of general file types, including PDFs, ZIP archives, documents, and images. Items are ordered by their arrival information; a newly downloaded archive does not need a recent original modification date to appear near the top. In-progress downloads appear after they finish.
Where can I see image size, dates, or camera settings?
Select an image in the full library. The right-side Details panel has an At a glance summary and expandable categories for the metadata available in that image. Your expanded categories stay open as you browse. Load full details from iCloud retrieves an original only when you request it.
Appearance & behavior
How do I browse enlarged previews?
Select an item and press Space. Use the up and down arrow keys to browse while Quick Look stays open. PDFs also show a first-page preview directly in the shelf; Space opens the document.
Can I grab a screenshot as soon as it appears?
Yes. Under Settings > Shelf, choose Stay tucked for a draggable screenshot thumbnail beside the pill. Thumbnail duration is adjustable from 1–60 seconds; hovering or dragging pauses the countdown. Choose Peek briefly or Open shelf if you prefer the full shelf to open. Customize by source keeps separate behavior for screenshots, downloads, and photos. Advanced contains source switching and layout options. New arrivals wait while you edit, drag, or use the full library.
Can I make the side shelf larger or smaller?
Open Settings > Appearance and adjust Shelf size from 80% to 140%. Previews, cards, and controls scale together, keeping three or six full cards. Larger sizes automatically fit the current display. Your preference is saved; Reset restores 100%. The collapsed pill stays compact.
Privacy, updates & recovery
Is Corbel the same app as Screenshot Shelf?
Yes. Corbel is the new name for Screenshot Shelf, made by Lumany. Your library, preferences, and existing updates carry over. The tuck icon and the shelf you know are still here.
Why does Corbel need folder access?
macOS requires explicit permission before an app can display, search, drag, or delete files in a folder. Corbel can access only the Screenshots and Downloads locations you choose through the system picker.
Does renaming in Shelf change my Photos library?
Photos titles, notes, pins, and review decisions are private Shelf metadata. They do not rename or edit the original in Apple Photos. Folder-based files can be renamed on disk.
How do I remove folder access?
Choosing another folder replaces the saved folder permission. Removing Corbel and its local application data clears its saved access and metadata.
